Governor’s Energy Excellence Awards Recognizes Ecotelligent Homes with 2015 Residential Project of the Year Award

Farmington Hills based Ecotelligent Homes, and their customers, the Miller Family, were named the Best Residential Project of 2015 at the First Annual Governor’s Energy Excellence Awards.  Gov. Rick Snyder recognized individuals and organizations from across the state for their outstanding achievements in eliminating energy waste at last week’s ceremony in Lansing, MI.  Michigan has emerged as a leader in energy efficiency and the awards are meant to showcase outstanding achievements in reducing energy waste.

Ecotelligent Homes, and their customers, Mike and Jackie Miller, were selected from over 130 nominations for their deep energy retrofit project which is projected to reduce their home’s energy consumption by up to 73%.

“Reducing energy waste doesn’t have to mean scaling back or doing less. Each of the nominees have demonstrated that it’s possible to do as much or more by finding new and innovative ways to get things done,” said Gov. Rick Snyder. “This is important because reliable and affordable energy fuels Michigan’s economy, and continuing to reduce our energy waste is one of the main ways we are going to keep energy prices affordable in Michigan.”

The Millers had Ecotelligent Homes perform a home energy audit on their early 1900s farmhouse in February 2015. The audit identified areas where the Millers could improve their efficiency and also uncovered a health and safety risk in the exhaust of their furnace, which ran on fuel oil. The Miller family utilized Michigan Saves financing and in June 2015 had Ecotelligent Homes replace their dangerous furnace with an ENERGY STAR-rated geothermal heat pump, which connected to four vertical ground wells, each 150 feet deep. Ecotelligent Homes also installed improvements to the Millers’ attic, wall, and basement insulation, sealed their ductwork with the patented Aeroseal process, and updated some lighting to LED bulbs.

In addition to the energy savings benefits from this project, the Miller family noticed an immediate improvement in their home’s comfort, citing an improved balance in temperatures between the 1st and 2nd floors, improved flow from the ductwork vent registers, and a reduction in exterior noise heard from inside their home.  Mr. Miller was proud to say, “We are already seeing a dramatic reduction in our energy bills.”, and Mrs. Miller was happy to add, “It really means a lot for our comfort.”

Amanda Godward, Owner of Ecotelligent Homes, said, “It has been a pleasure working with the Miller Family to implement all aspects of this project, and it’s a great honor to have their project recognized as the best in the state by the Governor’s Energy Excellence Awards.”
